Burmese
The Burmese (In Thai, Supphalak, meaning copper colour) is a breed of domestic cat, originating in Thailand, believed to have its roots near the present Thai-Burma border and developed in the United States and Britain.
Originally, all Burmese cats were dark brown (sable), but are now available in a wide variety of colors; formal recognition of these also varies by standard. Both versions of the breed are known for their uniquely social and playful temperament and persistent vocalisation.
While we had a brief reprieve from pet ownership in 2018 after Spago passed away in December 2017, something was missing in our lives. The arrival of Tofino that summer gave us a renewed sense of purpose and family (not to mention a full-time care schedule for an energetic puppy!). But Yoshiko still missed her "little boy" and the gentle character of a Burmese cat.
In between late-night walks with the puppy and constant training attempts, I researched breeders in the Lower Mainland area. I finally found one in North Vancouver with a good reputation and sent an email of inquiry. We finally learned there would be one male blue Burmese available, the last of the litter. And he could be ours.
We picked him up at Easter 2019 and he is now part of our family. Bacio (Italian for "kiss") and Tofino are best of friends and almost inseparable. They run and chase each other until they are tired. They are often found sleeping together in front of the fireplace or on one of our beds.
