Provided pro bono consultation to the owner/operator of Tokyo’s #1 gourmet burger restaurant in the areas of branding, social media, strategic business growth and investor relations. 

 

Executive Vice President, Rakuten Linkshare, Tokyo, Japan | 2013

Led a large and diverse group of managers and staff in a recently reformed division of Rakuten, Inc. Created an energetic and renewed culture of teamwork, customer service and creative thinking. Focused on retaining and expanding our market dominance as Japan’s leading affiliate advertising, lead generation and display advertising group.

 

Managing Director, Arista Networks Japan, Tokyo, Japan | 2010-2014

Established the Japan entity of Silicon Valley-based Arista Networks in 2010, overseeing the accounting, financial, legal and administrative functions of the firm. 

 

Regional Manager- Asia Pacific, United MileagePlus, Tokyo, Japan | 2003-2012

Recognized significant business opportunities within United Airline’s loyalty program, MileagePlus. While a mainstay US operation, MileagePlus had long remained a nascent business internationally.  As an independent contractor, set and achieved very clear goals: to expand the partnership network in Asia, develop new products and services, and reconnect with the members of the loyalty program. 

 

Consistently achieved and exceeded financial goals through effective partner relationships, market leading products and innovative promotions.

 

Professor, Temple University Japan, Tokyo, Japan | 2009-2010

At Temple University’s Japan campus, developed and instructed a course in Hospitality and Tourism Management for undergraduate students. Focused on the broad scope of career opportunities influenced by the social, economic and psychological issues of tourism.

 

Director, Sales & Marketing, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Tokyo, Japan | 2000-2002

Developed and led a team of industry specialists to establish Disney vacation distribution channels in Japan. The team worked closely with travel wholesalers, tour operators and retail agencies to ensure effective sales and maximize guest satisfaction. Led initiatives to develop consistent and authentic Japanese guest experiences within the parks and resorts.

 

Our highly integrated distribution marketing team worked jointly with the consumer marketing team at Disney to coordinate public relations, advertising and promotions. To further enhance and differentiate the Disney brand, developed a unique brand (Disney USA) and a business model for a stand-alone Disney online travel agency.

 

Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Canada, USA & Japan | 1983-2000

Spent almost two decades with Four Seasons in a career across multiple continents, hotels, resorts and regional offices, varied business situations and working with seasoned professionals. Primarily in sales, marketing and business development roles,  developed a reputation for taking on challenging business situations and delivering results above expectations.

 

From the Beverly Hills office, initiated efforts to replace the declining Southern California business from the defense industry with the high-margin entertainment sector. Built strong and multi-level relationships with many sectors including movie studios, recording companies, talent agencies and related businesses. Worked to develop relationships and new business opportunities from the complex inbound Japanese tourism market.

 

Selected to lead the sales and marketing launch team for the opening of its hotel in Tokyo. Adapted quickly to a new culture and environment, successfully establishing one of the first international branded luxury hotels in Tokyo.
