Spago- Senile cognitive dysfunction
Our almost twenty-year old cat has been growing increasingly noisy recently, especially at night. Not continuously but frequently he wanders around the condo meowing loudly at all hours. Understandably this is both disruptive to our lives and feeds concerns about disturbances to our neighbors.
During this week we consulted with his vet and the issues I described match closely to those of old age senility. She gave us some additional background but said there isn't much more that can be done. If we haven't fully understood it in humans, there isn't much research done into cats.
One solution we initiated that seems to be better is to fence off the room where he sleeps at night. In this way he doesn't wander in confusion, looking for attention.
