Weeding carrots
I am continuing my volunteer work at the nearby UBC Farm this summer. In the spring it was all about preparing the gardens and fields for the crops to come. I have been assigned to pick strawberries, Swiss Chard and blueberries and more since then. I enjoy the chance to work outdoors, learn about organic farming and meet other volunteers.
Today I was in the carrot fields removing the weeds. Nothing less than just getting down in the dirt and pulling by hand. Filling one bin at a time with weeds and moving up and down the rows.
It was very easy to identify which were weeds and which were carrots. Although still young, I snuck a few carrots out and we enjoyed them later at home.
