2016 Vancouver Marathon
After breakfast this morning I suggested to Yoshiko we stroll down to watch the Vancouver Marathon. The route passed through UBC just two blocks from our place. I expected there would be a moderately large number of people out to cheer on the runners. At first I thought we were in the wrong place since the street appeared deserted. But there were police at all the intersections and the road was very much closed to all traffic.
We waited in the sunshine for about fifteen minutes until several police motorcycles appeared, followed by two runners. These runners were 11 minutes ahead of the next group of runners! They really did have a commanding lead. I understand the runner in the white and red shirt was the winner.
