My mother's diploma
My mother was the second female graduate from the University of Alberta's Engineering faculty. Esther Rabkin graduated in 1935 from the Faculty of Applied Science but only spent her final year at the U of A. My mother completed all of her studies and graduated from the U of A in 1946.
Back in 2009 we packed up everything from my parents' house in preparation for their move to an independent yet assisted care facility. As we were sorting through possessions, I opted to assume care of my mother's diploma. Fast forward to now, just a few weeks after she passed away, and I had it reframed and hung on my home office wall.
Her spirit will live on. I will be sure of it.
