Star Wars- 40 years ago

This month is the 40th anniversary of the release of the film, "Star Wars: A New Hope", although at the time of the release it was only known as Star Wars.

I was 17 years old in that spring and living in Edmonton. A high school buddy and I stood in line for the first showing of the film. I don't remember the crowds to be very significant as word of the film hadn't spread. The theatre showing the film had a Star Wars-themed van on display in the lobby.

The two of us were so taken by the film we walked outside at the completion of the movie and got back in line for the second showing. We would go on to see the film more than twenty times that summer and would recite lines to each other.
