Volunteer gardener
Today I did my first round of gardening at a neighbor's home. They have a sizable lot (almost 1 acre) and plenty of trees, hedges and plants. The wife is originally from Japan and her husband (second marriage for both of them) is 99 years old.
The stress of caring for him every day, cooking and cleaning, and the responsibilities of the garden are clearly taking their toll on her. I offered to assist with some of the gardening tasks, especially in preparation for the winter.
Today I started work on trimming back the branches on one of their apple trees. I also worked with electric trimmers to give the hedges a trim. Lots more work to be done yet.
