Snowy Tuesday

The forecast called for snow today, which can mean almost anything for Vancouver. But one thing is for sure... most people are not prepared for it.

I had a doctor's appointment this morning and opted to take the bus since it was downtown. The snow was starting to fall as I left home. Within ten minutes it was really coming down and the streets were quickly getting wet, slippery and congested. To make things worse, one of the bridges to downtown was closed after an overnight fatal accident.

Luck seemed to be on my side as I arrived at the clinic exactly at my appointment time. A quick chat with the family doctor and I was on my way home. But the situation was getting worse. Skytrain to Broadway and then to the 99 bus home. About an hour to get to Alma where the buses were unable to climb the hill to UBC and the police had closed the street.

I hiked up the hill and, using the opportunity, dropped off books at the library and did some grocery shopping. I continued on towards home expecting to have to walk all the way home. Fortunately a trolley bus was slowly making its way through the snow and making unscheduled stops for those of us navigating the sidewalks. Everyone who got on the bus was very appreciative, including me.

Ready to stay home now. Or at least nearby. If the snowfall lessens... it will be a good chance for a walk with the camera.
