Putting away Christmas
I took this photo last night before turning in for the day. And today I took down the Christmas decorations at home, including the tree. The new year reminds us to get on with the new year.
This time of year reminds me of my childhood when the family would together, with great excitement, decorate a tree, the home and fireplace in preparation for the holidays. After the arrival of the new year it would be the chore of my mother to take down all the decorations. The Christmas tree would eventually meet its fate in the fireplace.
Shutting down a celebration is much less enjoyable than starting it. But someone has to do it.
During the process today I thought about having an unusual event next summer by hauling out the tree and decorating it. But it doubt it. There is something about the climate of December that lends itself to a real holiday feeling. Standing around a Christmas tree at 10PM while it is still light outside would be strange.
Until next December...
