Snowed In
We knew we could expect heavy snowfall today. The weather forecasts and snow warnings were very clear about it. The snow started to fall mid-morning so we made a quick dash to the supermarket by car to stock up on some items for entertaining friends this evening. By noon it was really coming down and blowing everywhere with strong winds. I made a brief trek to the post office in our neighborhood and the streets were almost deserted.
The snow and winds continued all day, often with brief intervals when it would clear up slightly. Then resume its pace. With the freezing overnight temperatures this week I made it a habit to bring the hummingbird feeders inside at night. Today I changed the water with room temperature water every few hours.
Late in the afternoon I looked out onto the patio and saw a hummingbird stranded in a snowdrift. Up to his neck in the snow. I went outside and rescued him. He seemed to appreciate the warmth of my hands before flying off.
This is certainly the worst snowfall I have witnessed in Vancouver to date.
