Our electric car is on order

Almost a year ago I drove the Chevrolet Bolt EV after reading many favorable reviews. At that time the dealer told me the earliest opportunity for delivery would be "about eight months from now". I read that to mean a 2017 model would arrive in the 2018 model year. So I shelved the idea.

Fast forward to this year. Our AMG is a fun car to drive but not exactly a daily driver. Yoshiko was spooked after causing some minor damage. I began to think about the right city car for us to use around Vancouver. So I restarted the search for a Bolt.

I checked several Chevrolet dealer websites' inventories and found some but a limited number of cars in stock. As I contacted them I discovered almost no inventory available. Most suggested ordering one from the factory as the best option.

With the high demand and the fact most dealers have no incentives to sell these cars (hard to get and no maintenance requirements), pricing is just the sticker price.

I selected a dealer and got "on the list" for one to be built this spring in the Cajun Red color I prefer. And paid a $500 deposit. I understand I will receive a delivery update once a VIN is generated.

Yoshiko has only seen one briefly on Vancouver Island when I pointed it out at a charging station. But I think she will love it. Small, simple, quiet and bright.

For the foreseeable future I will need to charge it overnight in the nearby UBC parking lot. But that challenge will come later.
