Home project
It has been a couple of months since the floors were replaced at home. The original hardwood floors were replaced with Italian porcelain marble tiles. A project that told its toll on us but the outcome was worth the cost and trouble.
One of the results of the work was the tiles being lower than the original woodwork. This required the baseboards to be replaced but a structural column in the living room was left with a noticeable gap on the base. I briefly considered contacting the knucklehead contractor but getting it fixed... but didn't want anything more to do with him.
Last week I went to Home Depot and (fingers crossed) asked one of the staff in the flooring department for advice. After describing the situation to him, he quickly recommended a vinyl base trim that could be cut to length and adhered to the column with contact cement. All of the necessary supplies were about $30.
This afternoon I did the work and I think it looks great. Perfect? Hell no. But there is one thing I have learned about reno work in Vancouver. Do it yourself if it makes sense. You learn something and don't have to deal with the labor issues with contractors here.
Next project? Painting!
