Passport gender

This morning I went downtown to submit my application to renew my passport. I attempted it yesterday at a field office closer to home. But the looming postal strike and the need to ensure my current passport (with a Japan re-entry permit) would be returned prompted me to take it to the main office of Services Canada.

When I was finally called by an officer for the review, she looked over my documents and application and asked, "Are you still a man?" I was puzzled by the question. She then pointed out my renewal application indicated I was female but my current passport listed me as "male".

Thankfully she took my word that is was an entry error and no further proof of any gender change was required.
