Investor at Hubly
I have been mentoring student ventures at UBC's entrepreneurial@UBC program for more than two years. I have seen a lot of good and bad ideas come and go but it takes a really great one to catch my attention. Moreover, it takes a dynamic, intelligent and hardworking team to pull it off.
Meet the founders of Hubly.
I did not mentor them during the incubator program last spring when they were Favor Financial. They had a very different business model for Favor. After five weeks of customer interviews and market discovery, they declared failure (a good thing in our program) but promised to apply their learnings to the next venture. Just minutes later I offered to mentor them for that venture.
Since that time (OMG, only nine months have passed!) they have worked tirelessly, developed a sustainable business model and (gasp) listened to me while I listened to them. And I am committed to an ongoing advisor role.
When they decided to make an initial fundraising effort at the beginning of the year, I was one of the first to raise my hand. Today I dropped off a check with the team. They seemed very happy and I could not have been more proud to support them.
