BMO Vancouver Marathon

Today I was a volunteer at the annual BMO Vancouver Marathon. Compared to the half-marathon in Yaletown in February, this time it was a lot warmer.

I arrived at 6:30 am for my shift, where I was assigned to the "Hand Out Food" team just past the finish line. Most of the food had been laid out the night before but I made some small adjustments for the sake of efficiency. We certainly had no shortage of bananas! The photo shows only half of the tables with bananas.

Lots of school kids eventually showed up to help and we assigned them to hand out the fruit, potato chips, energy bars and sandwiches. I offered to stand in front of the food area as the runner approached and direct them into the two lines.

I took it upon myself to not only direct but cheer on the runners and congratulate them.

I think I have found my calling.
