Road Bike Brakes
I have a Trek road bike. Whatever. During a recent ride I noticed the rear disc brakes were making a terrible noise when applied. Not a squeal but a screeching noise that I doubt adding enjoyment to anyone's day nearby.
I am not a bike technician but I knew enough not to apply any type of spray or cleaner to the discs. At my nearby bike store one of the staff cleaned the disc with isopropyl alcohol, which helped a little. He suggested the pads are likely contaminated and described how I could do it myself.
Today I dismantled the disc assembly, removed the pads and lightly sanded them. Somehow I managed to get everything back together afterward. An initial brake test seems to indicate the noise is gone.
Finally something has gone well. Ready for a bike ride soon.
