Sunday morning bike ride

It was one of those perfect late spring weekends in Vancouver this weekend and Sunday morning was an open invitation for a bike ride. A good friend from the 'hood and I headed out on our bikes early today. We wanted to be out on the roads and trails before they got congested with other rides and tourists... as well as enjoying the best temperatures of the day.

We found a good starting point at Highbury and 4th in Kits and cycled along the beachfront roads. Up onto the Burrard Bridge and across False Creek to connect to Stanley Park. Around Stanley Park and then humped it up the hill to the Lion's Gate Bridge where we had wonderful east-facing views of Coal Harbor as float plane soared over us.

It was a quick downhill ride to the north shore in North Vancouver and a leisurely ride to Ambleside Park for a very different view of Vancouver and English Bay. We watched several people fishing from the pier with various rates of success. And then it was time to finish the second half of our journey by heading home. Some interesting roads through Stanley Park and back across the now user-friendly Burrard Bridge.

The app on phone indicated more than 50 kilometers in distance, including my 2km ride to my friend's house. However I think this is more than generous. Based on time and speed, I would estimate closer to 40+ kilometers.

One of my best rides in Vancouver yet.
