Day 2 home in Tokyo
It is Day 2 of our trip "home" to Tokyo to work on our condo here. We came to the condo yesterday together for the first time since July 2015 when we moved to Vancouver. I was back alone twice since then to coordinate the movers and a follow up visit. On the latter trip I was able to get a lot of cleaning and organization done (but never enough, of course). Still, both Yoshiko and I were surprised at how good the place looked after all this time.
Yesterday was cold, windy and raining so a good day to turn on the heat, make some tea and stay indoors. As we went through the condo we found many reminders of life here before Vancouver. Many reminders of our three cats, the lifestyle based around our careers and a more Japanese lifestyle. As for me... too many electronic junk! A lesson for the years ahead.
I came across a sober reminder of an event in 2011. A radiation detector Yoshiko bought in the weeks following the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami just north off Tokyo. I think I will take it back to Vancouver... for no particular reason.
During our first 24 hours back in Tokyo I felt very relieved to be here. It felt like home again and always as though we never left. My mind raced with ideas about how we could share time here in our condo and in Vancouver. But I am starting to face the reality that we should rent or sell the condo. I hate when logic and common sense show up!
